Location: Plattsburgh, NY (potential travel to Canada)

Salary Range: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour

About the Roles:
Micro Bird USA LLC is seeking a hands-on Paint and Coatings Specialist who is responsible for
leading paint process development, repair of paint equipment, troubleshooting, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives. While this position does not involve leading people, it requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and deep expertise in automotive paint systems, formal training in painting technologies, and a passion for driving operational excellence. You must be proficient in accessing, understanding, and utilizing all relevant production tools, documentation, and specialized computer programs used by Micro Bird. This position requires regular travel between our two facilities and to other training sites across the U.S. and Canada.

What you will do regularly:

- Lead the assembly process for products, ensuring components are assembled accurately and meet design specifications.
- Serve as the technical authority on all paint shop processes: pretreatment, primer, paint mixing, basecoat, clearcoat, and curing.
- Lead troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts to reduce defects and improve paint quality.
- Support new product launches and engineering changes with paint process readiness and validation.
- Evaluate and implement new paint materials, application technologies, and equipment.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards related to paint operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, maintenance, and production) to ensure paint quality and process stability.
- Coordinate closely with the Drummondville, QC facility to align on process standards, share best practices, and support cross-border initiatives.
- Travel regularly between Plattsburgh, Drummondville, and other North American sites for on-site support, training, and technical development.
- Participate in and complete additional training and certification programs at designated facilities across the U.S. and Canada.
Minimum Requirements:
All applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive paint processes or coatings engineering and a strong understanding of paint application systems (robotic/manual), defect analysis, and surface preparation.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Formal education or certification in automotive painting or coatings technology (e.g., technical diploma, trade school, or industry-recognized certification).
- Familiarity with OEM paint specifications and quality standards (e.g., orange peel, DOI, color match).
- Proficiency in problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, DMAIC, FMEA).
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently between the U.S. and Canada, including for extended training assignments.
- Experience with both waterborne and solvent borne paint systems preferred.
- Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier background preferred.
- Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or quality systems (e.g., CQE, CQT) preferred.
- Bilingual (English/French) preferred.
- Knowledge of using paint toning software and equipment preferred.
