From Vision to Reality in Just 7 Months

After acquiring the site in December 2024, Micro Bird invested $38 million to completely reconfigure the facility for its signature small and mid-size buses. Today, over 225 employees are already on-site, with plans to scale to 350 team members.

“With our new facility, we are doubling our production capacity and increasing our ability to deliver high-quality, long-lasting buses,” said Eric Boulé, President and CEO of Micro Bird.“This achievement is the result of the hard work and dedication from our teams here in Plattsburgh and at our headquarters in Drummondville, Quebec.”

A New Chapter for Plattsburgh and the North Country

Governor Kathy Hochul celebrated the event by highlighting the facility’s impact:

“This new facility strengthens the local economy, creates good jobs, and builds a brighter future for the region and all of New York.”

Senator Chuck Schumer also praised Micro Bird’s commitment to revitalizing manufacturing in Clinton County:

“Micro Bird’s leaders have shown they care about this community and preserving hundreds of good-paying jobs. Buses across America will soon be rolling out stamped ‘Made in the North Country’.”

A Strategic Move for U.S. Bus Production

Plattsburgh was chosen for its skilled workforce, proximity to major transit corridors, and deep manufacturing roots.

“We’ve been planning this expansion for some years,” added Boulé. “Plattsburgh was the perfect choice for us—surrounded by talent and a strong industrial ecosystem.”

This new plant enhances Micro Bird’s ability to meet demand for gas, propane, and electric cutaway buses serving:

  • Paratransit and assisted living

  • Airport shuttle services

  • Community and religious groups

  • Specialized commercial fleets

All buses produced at the facility are Buy America Act (BAA) compliant.

Powered by Partnership

The event brought together employees, executives from Blue Bird and Girardin, key dealers, and government representatives. The celebration included plant tours, a ribbon-cutting, and remarks from industry leaders.

“We are opening more than a plant — we are opening the path to tomorrow,” said Boulé. “Guided by vision and driven by ambition, every bus we build here will help set the future of transportation in motion.”
